We're in the middle of a heatwave and this is the perfect outfit to get through this!!
I'm so in love with this beautiful new fabric. It's one of the designs of the recently new collaboration between Melissa Lowry and Minerva, and I got to pick on of the new designs on a base of my choice. I decided to try something new for me, a bamboo jersey! I have heard good things about this fabric, especially the softness of it, and I was very keen on getting to try it out for myself.
Before this fabric arrived to me, I already knew I wanted to make a jumpsuit with it. Initially I was planning on making the pants version of this jumpsuit, but when this fabric arrived I immediately changed my mind. This fabric was soooo soft and lovely and felt so perfect for a summer garment for hot summer days... It actually felt like the perfect thing to wear on our upcoming trip to Vietnam and honestly I don't think I want to wear anything longer than shorts with the temperatures will be having over there. ;) Ithink this bamboo jersey will be the most perfect thing to wear there all holiday long.
Besides the softness and comfort of this fabric, I also really love the design. The blue color is so pretty and the floral print is just lovely. All the Melissa Lowry designs are wonderful, but this one really was my favorite! This fabric design is called "Festival de Flores" and is also available with reversed colors (so blue floral on a white base). And since it's a POD fabric, you can not only get it on a Bamboo Jersey but on any base you'd prefer.
The only thing I didn't like about this bamboo jersey was that it was less well-behaved then a cotton jersey. It seemed a bit more 'slippery' maybe, it was moving more in the directions I didn't want it to go then a regular jersey. But I tackled it and managed to sew this lovely jumpsuit with it.
As for the pattern, I've made the "Sirocco" by Deer & Doe patterns. I had seen some lovely examples of it but this if the first time I actually made it myself. I made a size 44 with no adjustments other than adding 5 cm length to the shorts. The pattern instructions were a bit odd (they make you sew the pants with first the inseam, after that the crotch seam and last the side seams, which is a totally different way than I'm used to haha). But of course it also works just fine sewn up this way, and it's a lovely garment with the pleats and the back darts and the cross over bodice. I really like how it turned out and I really think this will be a favorite one to wear all summer long!
