When I decided on this super summery print I knew I needed to make something simple so that the design shone through. So I’ve gone for a pair of wide legged cut off pants and a neat top. I know this will be a staple on my next holiday to the sun.
I washed the material at 40 degrees and dried it outside. The useable width of the washed fabric was 150cm so no noticeable shrinkage. Of course the material creases - it’s linen - but it presses beautifully. At 260 gsm it is classed as medium to heavy weight and has a good amount of body.
This Minerva exclusive design is printed onto a fabulous quality 100 percent linen fabric. It is a tumbled washed linen, which has the unique textured weave of linen with a beautifully soft feel and handle. And it gets even softer after the first wash! Linen is breathable and is therefore a good choice for summer.
It really feels like my own personal sunshine. 🌞 I love the colour and the simple colour palette.
I’ve used this top pattern several times and know it fits me well. I’m pretty much a standard size 10 on the High street and find this pattern cut at a size 10 is perfect for me. The only alterations I made were to cut ‘proper’ facings for the neck and armhole rather than using bias binding. I also added 1 inch to the length of the top when cutting out to give a deeper turn for the hem. I decided not to insert pockets in the pants as I thought they’d be too bulky in this linen . I could have perhaps used a light weight pocket lining but I didn’t have anything suitable in my stash.
In terms of sewing I used a universal needle and finished all seams by overlocking. This linen has quite a dense weave so there isn’t a lot of fraying. It’s very easy to work with and presses really well.
