The new Minerva and McCalls collaboration has produced a fantastic range of free instantly downloadable sewing patterns and the Roseacre Blouse is so on trend.

I used this lovely cotton sateen in Iris Illusion, which a very strong graphic design in yellow and black on a cream background. It looks great teamed with smart black trousers or nice and casual with jeans. The cotton sateen is a beautiful quality, it’s not shiny as the name suggests, it’s soft and drapey so it takes the gathers in its stride.

The Roseacre Blouse features a wonderful collar with a deep frill which gives a neckline which shows off the collarbones but it’s not a plunge neckline. So if you have necklaces to wear this is a great blouse to show them off. There are bust darts and the sleeves are finished with an elastic casing, so just the right amount of sleeve drama, yes you can still do the dishes without fear of messing up your outfit. Practicality has to feature in our lives sometimes!

It’s a great blouse to sew and there are only four buttons so theres not too much buttonhole stress!

I sewed a size 12 which is just right for me.

Im so very excited about Minerva’s collaboration with McCalls, to have this range of patterns available on the website is such a bonus. The fact that they are instantly downloadable is wonderful, if you have access to a printer then you are good to go immediately or send the file off to a copy shop for your pattern to be printed on A0.

It’s super easy to put patterns together. There are location markers to match up and make the process much easier. Don’t forget to print the test page first and measure the square accurately so that you know you are printing correctly, and won’t get a sizing shock when it’s too late. Use grayscale to save on ink and if I have to print the test page a couple of times I line the trials through and just reuse the paper on the other side.
