I'm delighted to be sharing this project as my first make as a Minerva Brand Ambassador. Being given the opportunity to work with Minerva's fabrics and showcase my handmade wardrobe is incredibly exciting, and I couldn't think of a better project to start with than the Zadie Jumpsuit by Paper Theory.

Zadie is one of those sewing patterns that has stood the test of time, and after making my own version, I can see exactly why it remains so popular amongst sewists.

This relaxed and easy-to-wear one-piece features a wrap-front design that ties at the waist, eliminating the need for buttons or a zip. Not only does this make it a quick and satisfying sew, but it also makes the finished garment incredibly easy to get on and off. The pattern includes options for either wide three-quarter-length sleeves or a sleeveless version with a dropped shoulder. Other design details include wide cropped legs, deep front slant pockets, gentle pleats at the waist and a neckline finished with bias binding.

The pattern is available in sizes 6–28 and is rated as suitable for advanced beginners. The construction is straightforward, making it an enjoyable project while still offering plenty of opportunities to achieve a polished finish.

For my version, I chose Minerva Core Range Washed 100% Linen in the beautiful Petrol colourway. At approximately 170gsm, it is a relatively lightweight linen with a lovely drape that complements the relaxed silhouette of the jumpsuit perfectly. Like most linens, it does crease quite easily, but I think that only adds to its casual charm.

I pre-washed the fabric at 30°C with a gentle spin cycle and left it to air dry. It washed well, although there was a small amount of shrinkage, so I would recommend taking that into account when ordering. The fabric was a pleasure to sew, with minimal fraying and excellent handling throughout the construction process.

One of the advantages of choosing a well-established pattern is the wealth of fitting information available from other makers. Before cutting into my fabric, I read several reviews and noticed that many sewists found the pattern to run large and felt the rise was quite long. Taking this into consideration, I sized down by one size ( to a size 6) and shortened the rise by 1.5 inches.

After sewing a toile, I also made a small full-seat adjustment and a low-seat adjustment to improve the fit through the back. These minor alterations helped create a fit that feels comfortable and balanced while maintaining the relaxed aesthetic that makes the Zadie Jumpsuit so appealing.

Overall, I am delighted with the finished garment. The lightweight linen works beautifully with the design, resulting in a practical yet stylish jumpsuit that I know will become a well-worn piece in my handmade wardrobe.
