I made my daughter the prettiest dress and I couldn't be more pleased with it.
I thought this would be a good opportunity to join in with the #SewnWithBig4 challenge
I make her a dress or 2 every year around her birthday time, and this is just an absolutely stunning pattern.
This is Simplicity 8851 which I think is for 3-8 years old. My daughter is almost 3, I measured her and it did put her in the 3 yr measurements. It is a wrap style dress which is great for some wriggle room for growth. I chose view A, there's are also plenty of options to switch things up.
I did buy some ditsy floral cotton but didn't check the fabric requirements properly 🙈 it wasn't wide enough to accommodate the skirt. The skirt is really wide, which makes the dress so swishy and beautiful, just be more mindful of the amount of fabric you will need (unlike me 😅). I may continue with the other dress but narrow down the skirt to make it wearable. Or I may change it into a playsuit, use the top and make some shorts, I think that might be a great idea 💡
The bodice is lined which makes it tidy and the top soft against little ones skin. It called for a popper internally to hold the wrap, I just made a buttonhole and sewed on a button. And in the future I can remove the button and put it wider as she grows to make this pretty dress wearable for longer 🤞🏻
Little R had been swishing around all day like a princess. I highly recommend this pattern, I'm already looking forward to making it for her again.
