My sewing started by using some of my mums 1960's patterns in my 20's. I have a very large collection! Minerva have taken ownership of the Now and Then pattern brand and I am really enjoying working my way through them. It is good to use an updated vintage style pattern because you have all the advantages of more inclusive sizing and mixed sizing in one pack for grading unlike genuine patterns.

This punchy number is the #Oleanderdress a 1960's or 1970's style pattern depending on your sleeve choice or length. I have made a sewalong (not out yet) for this pattern and chose to work with two Minerva exclusive basecloths. That is a unique fabric option here where you can have the same print on different fabrics depending on what you want them for. Maybe you can think of another combination that you would like to use.

I chose a heavy triple crepe for the dress bodice because it is cut on the bias but I wanted it to be opaque with firm drape. For the sleeves and ties I chose a single georgette for sheerness. The tie in the neckline is also georgette to avoid a bulky gather or awkward bow at the centre front.

I made this as the pattern and didn''t make any mods but I think it would be superb as a mini. I am 5ft3" so if you were taller you could definitely achieve that. Otherwise, you will need to use the lengthen and shorten line given on the pattern sheet.

It's fun isn't it? This one is a sample so not for me but I will defintely be revisiting the pattern again.
