I’m really enjoying wearing my latest make. This is the second time that I have made the Iris cardigan, and this time my fabric is a lot lighter and has more drape, and so feels surprisingly different to wear.

My fabric was a crochet-effect lace knit with a little stretch in a gorgeous caramel colour.

This is such a special fabric; it’s beautifully textured with its crosses and flower design and little holes; it is very impressive when you see it up close.

I was a little apprehensive about how it would wash with its open weave (I was concerned it may stretch), but I needn’t have been; it laundered perfectly. I just popped it in the machine on a wool wash and dried it on my rack, and it was perfect.

I was also equally concerned that it would fray or be difficult to sew, but neither of these were an issue. It really was a surprisingly good fabric to work with.

As my fabric was thinner, I used an 80/12 ballpoint needle this time and found that when it came to overlocking, it breezed through my machine.

I love that I can wear this cardigan with either short-sleeve or long-sleeve tops, and it just layers so nicely. I think it will be a really versatile piece to take on holiday. It takes on a completely different vibe when it’s worn over a swimming costume as a cover-up compared to with jeans and a tee.

I love both my versions of this cardigan, and because they feel so different to wear, it’s almost like I have two completely different patterns. I honestly don’t have a favourite because they both are great in their own ways. My first is fabulous in the colder months, and this one is perfect for summer, so really I have the best of both worlds now.
