#MyFaveFabric

I absolutely adore this stretch cotton twill. Such a great weight, great colour and so easy to handle and sew up. It’s a perfect fit for this McCalls 8559.

This fabric has that distinctive twill/denim look with the diagonal weave, but has that additional 3% of elastane to make this a goodin in terms of comfort wearing. It’s such a great weight and would be good for trousers as well as light weight jackets. With 16 colours to choose from, it’s incredibly versatile. It has a beautiful softness to it, but holds its shape well. It has a distinctive right and wrong side which is always helpful, and I used a universal 80 needle with no issues. It’s a good width at 130cm and is Oeko-tex friendly which is great. I didn’t have any dye transfer when working this this fabric, but it does fray, which was why I chose a frayed hem!

This is my second go with the McCalls 8559 and it all went smoothly and fairly quickly. The sizes range quite small I thought, 34”/88cm - 42”/107cm hip, and I cut a size 12. I did try out a curved waistband this time (I took from my Coe trousers) as the pattern comes with a straight one, and I’m not convinced 🤔 I’m going to go with it’s more my error and needs tweaking a little more. As with the Big 4, instructions can feel a little scant in places, but it’s definitely enough to get you to the end product. I did do the frayed hem this time which is good fun. I’m interested to see how this fairs after a few wears and washes.

Fabric wise, the other colours on offer are such a good colour range, I can definitely see a wardrobe staple in each colour!
