My latest make Vogue 2064 and I love it

I have been wanting to make this for a while so I was very excited with this beautiful blue bob cat crush jersey that Minerva kindly gifted me. The pattern pieces are huge on this so it's a very fabric hungry pattern.

The dress is fitted with princess seams which are then top stitched and a turtle neck collar which is gathered and has a trumpet shaped skirt….and there is a lot of topstitching! I mean lots! Most of the seams are top stitched, the only exception is the centre back and side seams. Luckily I have a stretch topstich stitch on my machine but if you don’t have one on your machine I recommend you use Maraflex thread so you can use a straight stitch and still have the stretch in the seams as the top stitching is a feature of this dress and I don’t think it look so good with a narrow zig zag.

I made a mixture of view A and B, I wanted the longer length and sleeves. These sleeves are very long and have a slit in them for the thumb which is ideal for me as my hands are always cold. . I had 6 metres of fabric and view B without the sleeves takes 5.7m in my size and I wasn't sure if I fit the long sleeves in but thought if I could fit any length in that would be good but somehow I managed to fit the full length in.

It started off well and I thought I would be finished quite quickly, the side bodices fitted well and I was feeling very smug ... .that was until I started to add the side panels on the skirt. Not sure what went wrong, I have done a lot of princess seams in the past and they been fine but it did need a lot of stretching for the side panel princess seam to fit the notches on centre front skirt and when it was done it was very puckered and stuck out, I did unpick and redo but to no avail so finally I ended up pinning it on to my mannequin and pinching out the excess and drawing in a new seam which seems to of worked. I went back and checked that I cut it out right and put there notches in the right place and I did everything correctly. I have looked at reviews on this pattern and no one seems to have hit this problem so I am at a loss at what I have done wrong. I have also spoken to a sewing friend who made it and she hasn't had a problem either but she made it from the paper version and mine was a pdf. When I went onto attach the side panels on the centre back I was nervous that I would hit the same problem but these fitted perfectly and no problem.

Saying all that it was worth the blood, sweat and tears because it is an amazing dress.
