Summer is in full bloom where I live and I’m soaking up all the sunshine I can. Made this cutie, floral, co-ord set in the Enchanted Roses, Linen look, cotton print from Minerva.
Is it 100% cotton? Yes! Does it feel like a linen or a linen blend? Also, yes! It has some nice slubs that give the fabric texture and depth. I have enjoyed both work my with and wearing this fabric base very much.
This is a print on demand fabric, so they design is printed onto the base fabric once it’s ordered. This is my first time using one of the pod fabrics. I found the color to be vibrant, saturated and just gorgeous- both before AND after washing it. I wasn’t sure how much it might fade as I’ve had that experience in the past with other fabrics, but I don’t notice any fading. I tossed a few color catchers in the machine just in case anything bled because of the vivid shades, and didn’t notice anywhere that the design bled into areas. Another win.
Because the fabric has slubs in it and it’s printed after, there are some tiny, white spots where the fabric wasn’t printed. Speckles of white, like the size of a pencil tip. Just something to take note on, any lighter colors it’s unlikely to be very noticeable at all, but would be on black or dark colors. I think it adds to the texture of the fabric and don’t see it as a negative personally, but rather like it. I love this base and will definitely sew with it again!
My skirt is the new(ish) I AM Patterns Lotus. I’ve been wanting to give this pattern a whirl and thought it would be a perfect pairing with the fabric immediately, and it sure was. Cute button front, simple design that can be made in so many substrates and prints. Really really versatil! I just love a simple pattern with a bolder print design. Already back on my cutting board for another Lotus. The pattern inclides a top, skirt and dress designs.
My shirt is the True Bias Aster. I love that I can wear them together as a set or separately by pairing with a solid t-shirt or another skirt or pants.
This was my first Aster also. I made some tiny fit adjustments to my next ones that took a touch of length out of the straps and moved them into ever so slightly. These sew up fast and I’ve already accumulated three. Love that they only use a little fabric and can be made with some of my leftovers or precious (expensive) fabrics without breaking the bank. Back buttons are a fun, little detail and I enjoy picking buttons for them. Amazing hrab and go, easy summer top to wear.
Both pattern were a yes from me and already have multiples in the process and/or rotation. Both designs would be lovely with a solid color and maybe a season of slow sewing and adding hand done embroidery over them. Something I may consider when the weather shifts. For now, I’m fully immersed in my colorful, floral days and my new set!
