First about the fabric, it is a lightweight woven (non-stretch), 100% cotton material. It is really light and flowy, so I wanted to make something that would really show off those qualities.
That was my original plan. Then things happened. I think my fabric got caught is a backlog of POD fabrics because it took three months for me to get it. Then, in June a tree fell on my house. We were left with almost no electricity in several parts of the house, but particularly the basement where I sew. That meant that I had to figure out a way to get a project done. So, I rigged up some lights that I have from a photography light kit, plugged in a surge protector for my sewing machine, and then, finally, I could sew. But that also meant that I was going to make something very easy and quick because I was left with no capacity (mentally) for any long, detailed project.
I pulled out the pattern I used from my pattern stash. It’s Butterick 6685; something I’ve made before. I’ve only made the sleeveless version previously. This time I wanted the sleeves to showcase how light and breezy the fabric can be. Even though I cut out the sash pattern that goes with the top, I didn’t (or at least haven’t) made it. I like how the top fits and feels without the sash, so I may just leave it be.
With the very hot temperatures we’ve been experiencing in my area, I think that this top should be pretty comfortable to wear. It’s 100% cotton so it’s a breathable fabric. That means that I shouldn’t be feeling sticky after wearing this. It washes and dries just fine (I use cold water and low heat in the dryer). The colors are vibrant and didn’t fade at all. I have enough left over for something else, so I’m thinking possibly palazzo pants. But for now, this is it.
Fingers crossed I should be back in my fully functioning sewing room by the time you all are reading this. It’s been a harrowing few weeks and I am ready to take a break for the summer 😂. In the meantime though, get this fabric! There are so many options for the cotton lawn POD that you can certainly find something to your liking.
