A Trio of Samaras!

I wanted a pattern for a simple-to-make top for my holiday, so when my very good friend pointed out the pattern for the new Samara top from Tilly And The Buttons at the recent Stitch Festival, I was like “take my money!”.

I made 5 of these tops altogether, but my favourites are these three made in Deadstock Sequin Cotton Voile. Such a lovely fabric to sew with, delicate but sturdy - and sparkly! It was also surprisingly easy to press and iron, I just made sure I did it on the wrong side of the fabric so as to protect the sequins.

I made them all hip-length, it was just the sleeves which are different. The pink one is the bracelet straight sleeve, the white one is the full-length elasticated sleeve and the turquoise one is the full-length sleeve without elastic (it was a happy mistake - I thought I’d cut another bracelet sleeve version!).

The pattern itself is wonderfully straightforward to put together - each top took about 2.5 hours from cutting out to final press.

I took great pleasure in wearing these for dinner on holiday, with a pair of Tilly And The Buttons Safiya trousers (from her Make It Simple book), which I hacked a little by making them longer and adding slanted pockets. My lovely daughters gave me Minerva gift cards for Mother’s Day and when I saw this Minerva Core Range Mill Washed 100% Linen Fabric, I knew the white would be perfect for the style of trouser and I wasn't disappointed - it's gorgeous fabric and I felt so cool wearing them. Perfect for holiday!

Even though I’m now back home, these tops and trousers will give me definite holiday vibes for a long time to come… ☀ ☀☀
