When you decide to take a trip to Paris for a fashion exhibit, it’s the perfect excuse to sew up something a little special!

I knew my husband and I would be visiting Paris at the end of April and wanted to tackle a bit of a unique dress for the occasion. Did I mention I found the PERFECT fabric for it too? I snagged this amazing Minerva Deadstock Cotton Poplin Fabric Black & White in this gorgeous floral sketch print and got to work.

I’d been eyeing Vogue 2084 for quite some time, and thought that the sewing pattern would really sing in a bit of an artistic print. The dress itself has some real artistry in the overbodice due to its structural nature so this pairing just felt “right” to me.

This pattern definitely has a lot of nice detail and finishing work with the fully boned bodice, fully pleated skirt, and lining. However, the star of the show is this overbodice. This great, artsy, structural top actually BUTTONS ON over the regular dress so you can wear it either way (video on this to come). I need this dress in about 30 different variations right now. The possibilities are endless!!

You could make the entire dress in one fabric you love, or you could choose to make the overbodice in a solid and the dress in a print (or the reverse). You could make the regular bodice in a solid color with a printed skirt and matching overbodice, or you could even play around with sheer embroidered fabrics underlined with a solid for an overbodice. There are so many ways I want to try this dress!

Not only am I happy with how this turned out (the structure really makes the fit *chefs kiss*), but I’m so excited to make more of these - and I can't wait to wear it for the exhibit!
