Minerva Exclusive Meadow Melody Sweater Knit Stretch POD Fabric
I’m so excited to share this pretty matchy-matchy outfit I made!
This sweater knit fabric is absolutely stunning, and the range of prints available in this fabric is incredible. I’ve been wearing a lot more green lately, and this particular shade—a soft, pale emerald-like colour with delicate white flowers and little black centres—is just perfect.
When sewing with this fabric, I recommend handling the cut edges carefully or serging them before constructing your garment. I did notice some laddering at the neck of my cardigan, but I suspect that was due to stretching the fabric during multiple fittings. Lesson learned!
One of the great things about this print is that it doesn’t have a distinct direction, making it easy to play a little “pattern Tetris” and fit all the pieces on the available fabric. The fabric itself is a dream to sew! Most of the construction was done on my serger, and I topstitched the seams on my sewing machine with a walking foot—no stretching or distortion at all. The horizontal stretch is fantastic, making it perfect for the skirt I chose to make.
This fabric is ideal for transitional seasons or winter. It’s too warm for the hot summer we’re currently experiencing, but I can’t wait to wear this outfit on repeat come autumn. The cardigan is also super versatile as a layering piece, no matter the weather.
For this project, I decided to make a mix-and-match skirt and cardigan instead of a dress. While I love dresses (my initial plan), I really enjoying the flexibility of wearing two pieces together or separately.
For the skirt, I used the Pattern Emporium “Slay All Day” Skirt. This pattern is designed for stretch knits and comes in AU sizes 4–30. It offers loads of options, including three waistbands, four lengths, and five split designs (side, front, back, and offset). I’ve made this skirt a few times and always go for the wide, shaped waistband—it gives the skirt such a lovely fit. For added stability, I used a performance knit for the waistband facing. I chose side splits for this version, and the result is a super comfortable skirt that’s quick and fun to sew.
For the cardigan, I used the Pattern Emporium “Grab a Cuppa Cardi”. It’s an oversized, dropped-shoulder style that also comes in AU sizes 4–30. The pattern includes three length options, a button-up front, and generously sized sleeves with easy-fit cuffs. For this project, I opted for the cropped version with faux buttons (snaps instead—I’m not a fan of doing buttonholes on knits!). While the cropped version doesn’t recommend pockets, I added patch pockets because I liked the look, even if they’re not super functional.
I’m thrilled I went with separates instead of a dress. I know I’m going to have so much fun mixing and matching these pieces to create different outfits … once our weather cools a little. 😍
A big thank you to Minerva for this gorgeous fabric, gifted as part of the Minerva Ambassador program.
Thanks for reading, and happy sewing, everyone!
