Emily in Paris Cobalt Suit 💙 Project Update #2 : Fitting, Planning, and Cutting ✂️

*see profile for update #1

With most new patterns, I like to make a #toile or #muslin to ensure I get the fit right. When it comes to a #tailoredsuit , this feels especially important. Though it adds more time to the project, it’s a worthwhile endeavour.

Over the past little while, when I get time here and there, I’ve been tracing pattern pieces, cutting out muslin fabric, basting pieces together, and adjusting fit as necessary. This week, I felt like I got to a good place for both the pants and jacket for the #v1807 pattern. I used two books to help guide me in the process: Pants for Real People by Pati Palmer & Marta Alto and The Perfect Fit by Singer.

In addition to fit, I’ve also reviewed Claire Schaeffer’s Couture Sewing Techniques book which shares some tips and tricks that will apply nicely to the jacket. I’ve been taking notes in my project notebook to track these desired techniques (+ all fitting changes). Once I get to applying and executing these techniques, I hope to share some of the tips I’ve applied with you here 🙏

Now that the fit and planning are done (which TBH took a good chunk of time!), I've now moved on to cutting my cobalt suiting. The pre-wash for the fabric was a cool rinse and a tumble dry low which worked perfectly! No changes to the beautiful vibrancy of this fabric 💙

Next up (hopefully today), I plan to tackle cutting the lining and ensure the transfer of all markings (dart lines, etc.) are accurately transferred to my fabrics. Wish me luck 💫 It’s almost time to sew!
