Hello, darlings💕

Happy New year!! 2025 came in fast and is rolling. Wishing everyone a healthy, prosperous year!!!

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to participate in the #BestOf2024 . But looking back, this creation is hands down my personal favorite of the year.

This was my first-ever Frocktails, and when Chicago Frocktails announced The Blues Era as the theme, I knew I had to attend and make something unforgettable. Torn between the 1920s and 1950s, I initially ruled out the iconic dropped waistline of the ’20s because I knew it wouldn’t flatter me. I almost settled on a ’50s inspired look when I discovered the caftan, a 1920s garment that perfectly balanced glamour and comfort. The rest, as they say, is history.

I chose a stunning iridescent rayon fabric from a local store and paired it with Vogue 1886, making a few custom modifications along the way. Instead of buttonholes for the empire waist tie, I used grommets for a cleaner, modern touch. I added a neckline embellishment for a bit of sparkle, and the pièce de résistance: horsehair braid around the oversized sleeves. The result? Sleeves so voluminous and ethereal, I felt like I was gliding through the night like a sea creature.

When people gasped upon seeing me, I knew I’d nailed it. For a sewist, there’s no greater compliment.

It was a true labor of love, but every stitch was worth it!

thanks for readi, until next time.
