I’ve been enjoying wearing my finished Mave skirt. It’s comfortable and a fun pop of color to wear with a neutral top as well. I sewed a cami with this same fabric. I also had the thought that I could wear the two together for a more uniform look with matching fabrics.
I admittedly picked the largest commitment with the tiered maxi version that I sewed. That said, I NEVER regret taking my time with a longer sewing project (with the result). I love that the lining with this skirt so it’s comfortable to wear. I love wearing a maxi dress or a skirt for the coverage there. The tiers in the skirt make it a loose fit for comfort there as well. I also love how many options are included in the Mave pattern! I can make many more versions of this skirt with different looks there. With the tier options, finding scraps in my stash would be a fun patchwork approach to try with this pattern in the future as well.
I previously mentioned that I left the button holes on the inside of the skirt in case I wanted to add an inner drawstring in the future. I’ll wear the skirt a few more times before I make the final call but so far, I’m enjoying the fit with the mod to the elastic length and haven’t found adding a drawstring necessary.
This project was a fun change for me as I’ve tended to go with a printed fabric on top with a solid on the bottom (with the exception of a dress or a jumpsuit). I think it’s fun to push yourself a bit with colors and prints (or switching up a print on the top or bottom as well).
A last note that I wanted to mention, if you treat a fabric with a spray starch, it’s going to be a tighter fit before the starch is washed out. So just a tip there, wash and dry the skirt before you reference the finished skirt’s fit. When the starch is washed out of the skirt, it results in a looser fit, adding the drape back to the fabric.
I included an out-take photo as well, just to be silly. My husband has been a great sport over the years, to help me take photos. When he's been involved, I'm usually laughing a lot, behind the scenes.
Wishing you all a happy New Year's Eve and 2025.
