🖤Dreamy black witch-dress in polyester crepe fabric🖤
A woman can NEVER have too many black dresses, am I right?
I like black dresses so much because you can dress them up or down, as you wish.
I love to wear them in autumn or winter and pair them with pretty boots and accessoires. This time I went for a more spooky look. Autumn (and Halloween) is one of my favourite times throughout the year. I dreamt of this belt forever and it was always sold out everywhere. Finally my Victorian « hands belt» came back and I think it looks perfect with this dress. But more on the accessoire later, now I want to talk about this stunning fabric and the different patterns I used for this one.
First, this fabric is one of the nicest fabrics to work with EVER. I really wish it would come in more colours, so I could make many more dresses like this (brown, red and beautiful teal and green tones would be amazing). As for right now, the colours available for this Minerva Core range textured polyester crepe fabric are blush, camel, grey, ivory, navy, rose pink, wine, stone and black. This fabric is medium weight, woven, crepe (with composition of polyester) and non-stretch. All the steps before starting sewing went great, such as pre-washing it, hanging it to dry and cutting it out. Sewing and pressing worked also like a charm, of course I used medium heat with my iron (for crepe). What I love most about this fabric is the drape. When you wear it, it feels so light and wonderful on your skin and it looks even more beautiful when you twirl in it. I also love the texture of this black crepe fabric, it makes it look even more interesting.
I used 3 different patterns to create this dress. This composition of patterns is my favourite to wear for fall and winter. I love how elegant and classy it looks. I can wear it to work and also for date night.
Let’s start with the bodice. If you follow me you may have noticed that I use the Lydia Naomi MILKMAID pattern a lot. It is my most used pattern. I only lined the bodice and also put in 6 boning channels to give it a more structured look. I like that it looks like a corsett.
For the sleeves I altered Gertie’s Night&Day dress Bishop sleeves to fit the Milkmaid bodice. I wish I would have made the sleeves slightly longer, so I could move my arms a little bit more freely. The problem is, that I forgot my version of this altered sleeve in vacation, so I had to create them again. (Meanwhile I am waiting on my sister to send me the pattern again. 😉)
The skirt is an absolute mystery to me…Again, I used the Liz dress skirt for my dress but I seam to have huge issues with the skirt hem EVERYTIME I use a non cotton fabric. It’s the second time this has happened. The hem of my skirt was super uneven and I had to chop off quite a lot to make it even on all sides. Whenever I sew the Liz dress in a cotton fabric, it’s even. No alternations needed. I don’t know why this happens with crepe fabric but maybe you can educate me so I don’t feel frustraded everytime I make this pattern with this fabric…Because I do like it better with a drapy fabric like crepe.
I hope you do like my new dress as much as I do. In these photos I paired my dress with the Victorian hands belt from Vixen (by Micheline Pitt) and spider accessoires.
If you have any questions about the fabric or patterns I used, just ask me 😊
Thanks for reading and stopping by…
