With Exclusive viscose linen in Boudoir Bouquet

The Burnside Bibs is one of those Indie pattern classics that everyone was drawn to the moment it released and then continued to love over the years. It was so popular that Sew House Seven even released a spin-off pinafore dress version in collaboration with Big-4. All that being said, I really can't believe I hadn't sewn a pair until recently - that is when I was offered the opportunity to test-run one of the new Minerva Exclusive kits featuring the stunning Boudoir Bouquet print in viscose linen. It was indeed match made in heaven as far as sewing goes, all wrapped up in a fully customizable kit no less.

The Exclusive kit includes everything you need to sew up this wardrobe staple: paper pattern, yardage of the most scrumptious viscose linen, Gutermann thread and invisible zipper in matching color, interfacing and even needles. Released at the same time are 4 other kits featuring the same pattern using different fabric and prints. I might be partial but the moody floral of Boudoir Bouquet is the clear winner =). I usually would shy away from an all-over print for a pair of overall (because of, well, the all-over-ness of it all). But in this case, the harmonious hues and subtle watercolor strokes of the print really blend together for a soothing effect. I paired it over a light colored top for photos but it would really look lovely over a black tee too.

Each component of the kit is well thought of and easy to use. The paper pattern from Sew House Seven has fantastic printing and the instructions are first rate. I especially love the roomy patching pockets with curved opening, and of course the laced back waist with the dainty ties. There are 2 views - a more fitted version with side zip, and a more relaxed version with no closures. I chose the latter and am very pleased with the fit and silhouette achieved through just the adjustable waist ties. Excellent drafting indeed. Of course the drape and flow of the Minerva Exclusive viscose linen fabric is a key element too.
