Pattern Description: I AM Valerie cami and Papercut Patterns Tula pants.
Pattern Sizing: I AM Valerie: 34-52. I made a size 36.
Papercut Tula: 1-14. I made a size 2.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, both patterns have very clear and easy to follow instructions.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Likes: Valerie: I AM Patterns generally fit me pretty well without too many alterations. This top is comfortable and the v sits nicely.
Tula: this is my favorite elastic waist pants pattern. love all the details like the faux fly, drawstring, and how the pockets are constructed. it also has lots of options.
Dislikes: Valerie: no dislikes.
Tula: The drafting for the fabric drawstring is far too narrow to turn it easily. I gave up and substituted twill tape instead.
Fabric Used: Minerva Exclusive Boudoir Bouquet Silk Satin Fabric (2.6m)
The print is so vibrant on this silk satin. One thing to note: I did prewash and dry the fabric and it bled very significantly (4 color catchers were bright blue and the dye bled onto some other items). I consider this to be pretty normal for silk but it's just something to keep in mind. I also starched the fabric before cutting out my patterns.
Changes/alterations: Valerie: I shortened the straps and interfaced them.
Tula: I've made these so many times I cannot remember all of the alterations I made. I know that I shortened the legs and added more room for my thighs.
Would you sew it again? I would absolutely sew both pieces again. The Tula is already a TNT and the Valerie is on its way to becoming one.
Conclusion: I love how this set turned out. It looks so luxe and I'm looking forward to styling it with cozy sweaters or jackets for fall.
