This popular denim jacket pattern takes inspiration from the classic unisex silhouette, and I have been wanting to make a white version like the one Mimi G is wearing on the pattern envelop for a while! But if you know me, you know I don’t gravitate towards solid colors too often so when Minerva launched their new Exclusive Organic Cotton Twill Fabric, this Falling Blossom fabric jumped my queue and I’m thrilled with the results.
The Fabric
Fantastic quality and it couldn’t get easier to handle and sew than with cotton twill. My husband seemed a bit dubious of the print when I showed him the fabric telling him what I was planning to make; and he was pleasantly surprised with the end results and says that he just loves it! He even asked me to make him something similar so I’m keeping my eyes open for some of the other prints that might fit with his personality. The fabric is considered medium weight so I decided to interface some areas but could have probably done without.
The Pattern
The pattern has 20 pieces, and although not technically difficult there are a lot of steps, so the pattern is classified as intermediate. The You Tube tutorial with Norris was great and a must (in my opinion) for the welt pockets construction. I ended up interfacing one section of the collar and collar stand, the welt pocket facing and welt pocket area in the main fabric, the button and buttonholes plackets, and one section of the upper pocket flap. I did not interface the cuffs.
It has already proven very useful as we have had a few days of lower-than-normal summer temperatures. Hope you like it as much as I do!
