MINERVA EXCLUSIVE SEWING KIT

Fabric : Minerva Exclusive Pop Cheetah Linen Viscose Blend

My latest project using a Minerva sewing kit was Simplicity Dress 8640 made in Minerva Exclusive Pop Cheetah Linen Viscose Blend Fabric.
Sewing with a Kit is always fun as everything you need to complete the project is there: paper pattern, suitable fabric, matching thread, needles and buttons. You can adjust your kit as you wish, if you have the thread and the needles you can take them out of your kit.
I decided to make option A , so the sleeveless dress was full-length and definitely with those pretty pockets.
As I was not sure about the fit/sizing, I made a little toile for the upper part of the dress as I wanted to see the fit of the armholes and the fit over the bust.
I started with size 14 and based on the fit of my toile I made a few fitting changes:
*-1,5 cm swayback adjustment
* raised the armhole by 1cm
*I made the shoulder length shorter by 2 cm as I wanted a smaller shoulder in a sleeves style like this
*The neckline is finished with facings in the original pattern but I decided to use bias binding, and because of that I adjusted the seam allowance to 0,6mm. I used strips of fabric cut on the bias, 3,5mm wide.

There are two length options in this pattern, I wanted to try the longest option, thinking that I can always make it short if that was my preference.
The front upper bodice is cut on the bias and that adds a bit of extra comfort/fit , I like that.
Very easy to sew and this fabric makes it even easier. Stable and easy to handle.
I love the pockets on this pattern. They are actually two pattern pieces to for me the pockets. The outer layer has a wider bottom that gets gathered to fit the inside pocket piece/lining. I used for the lining of the pocket a remnant piece of cotton from another project.
Also, I added the pockets at last , when the dress was finished and I could decide exactly the position.
In the original patter the pockets have a more decorative purpose, so they are actually very low placed, but I wanted them also functional, so after putting my dress on I decided the placement, about 12 cm higher than the original pattern.
I am thrilled with my new dress! Feeling great in it, I love the comfortable fit on the lower part of the dress but the armholes and bust are just nicely fitted.
