Pattern Description: New Look 6605
Misses' Skirt with Neck Tie
Pattern Sizing: 8-20. I sewed View B in a straight size 10.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, they were very clear and easy to follow. No issues.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Likes: I like the style of a full pleated skirt with an elastic waist for comfort. The in-seam pockets are anchored into the waist seam so that they stay on the front.
Dislikes: None.
Fabric Used: Minerva Core Range Soft Cotton Duck Canvas Fabric White, 2.2m.
To be honest, this fabric was slightly heavy for the pattern. I chose it because I wanted a white skirt that would not be see-through. I had to pull the elastic pretty tight to get it to stay on my waist because of the weight of the skirt.
Changes/alterations: I added 3 belt loops so that I can wear a belt and help keep the skirt up on my waist. I used a thin cotton sheeting in a cream color for the pockets to reduce bulk. And I did a 2" blind hem by machine instead of a 1.25" regular hem.
Would you sew it again? I might out of a lighter weight fabric. I do really like the style with the pleats in the front and darts in the back. Very ladylike.
Conclusion: White midi skirts are very on-trend for summer and I am glad to have added this one to my wardrobe. Because of the heavier weight I can get additional use out of it in other seasons as well.
There are so many styling possibilities and I'm excited to try out new combinations. For the photos I paired the skirt with a Victory Patterns Frances crop tee, but you could easily dress the skirt up or down as you wish.
