Summer is about here and it's time to get ready for lots of pool time. Since I spend most of my outdoor time trying to avoid too much sun, I like to have lots of coverups to wear while sitting "near" the pool by the porch and running in and out of the house while hosting parties.

This crinkle cotton was the perfect lightweight, slightly sheer fabric to make a swim coverup. I originally sewed the Fringe Dress by Chalk and Notch Patterns in View A with view b sleeves. After completing the sew, I decided I didn't like the asymmetrical hemline. Grabbing the scissors and a ruler, I chopped it off...and then I think I realized it would be a bit shorter than I would like- oops! I love the top portion so much, I am torn between leaving it as is or shortening to a peplum top to pair with jeans and a tank to wear underneath it.

Either way, I think I will wear it a ton this summer. It is lightweight and cool. The fabric has a lovely texture to it. Beware it does have a little "give" with the texture, so seams can stretch slightly when sewing. In order to avoid adding button holes in this type of fabric, I made the placket faux and just topstitched one side on top of the other and added 3 buttons. This pattern is loose enough to pull on over my head and I didn't have to worry about putting too much stress on the fabric.

Overall, I am really pleased with this sew and just need to decide whether or not to keep it as a swim cover up or chop it to create a top. What's your vote?
