This is my fourth- or fifth-time making Vogue 9253 (reissued as Vogue 1735), a deep V neck kimono style dress which is perfect for showcasing a large scale print such as this jungle theme deadstock viscose fabric. For my versions I closed the deep V neck a bit by redrafting the front bodice pieces so that they overlap raising the neckline. The pattern is suitable for both lightweight woven fabrics and lightweight jerseys and I have made it in various woven and knit fabrics. For my knit versions I skip the back zipper and simply sew that seam from neck to hem.
The way the skirt is cut and constructed in 4 panels with 2 large pleats in the front and 2 darts in the back, give it a lot of movement so a drapey fabric like this is perfect for it. The bodice also has well placed darts resulting in a very flattering fit, and the wide dropped sleeves make it super comfortable. The pattern include self-ties which are installed at the back and tied in front, but I find that for my body they hang at an angle that I don’t like and are really unnecessary to give the dress good definition. Since I have taken them off from most of my previous versions, I went ahead and skipped them this time from the beginning 😊
