My finished jumpsuit!

This was a long make for me as I didn’t have much time over the last few weeks so I was doing a little here and little there which made it feel like forever. As well as that, I was being a little slower than normal anyway because this gorgeous fabric is quite slinky so I didn’t want to pull it out of shape at all when manoeuvring the many corners and joins in this pattern.

I used the Simplicity / Know Me ME 2027. Designer Keechii B Style. I loved this jumpsuit when I saw it. The button up bodice and wide leg trousers just sung to me. I thought this pattern and fabric combo was perfect for using a contrasting colour like on the pattern envelope. I made version B which is the full length trousers. I cut size 10 which is the smallest on the envelope. I think I probably could have gone slightly smaller but with the belt I don’t think it matters because it has a loose fitting look anyway, especially in the flowey fabric I used.

*Fabric*
I’m using this viscose challis fabric in a sky blue geometric/abstract. I love the pop of pink in the pattern. The fabric is lightweight, really slinky to touch and feels very cool. Definitely a perfect fabric for any summer outfits.

*Sewing*
I used a contrasting fabric for the stripe down the centre of the jumpsuit, with the same print viscose for the rest. I decided to go with a dark navy stripe in the same fabric. I nearly choose pink as it’s my favourite colour but I thought the dark navy would be more dynamic. For this I bought 1.5 meters of the Minerva Core Range viscose challis in ‘dark navy’. I didn’t get a sample first in the hopes it would be OK and it’s like a 99% match so I was really happy about that!

I feel like this pattern really got me paying attention to the small details, which is great especially after sewing a few perhaps more straight forward garments. I had to be really careful to make sure all my pattern markings were accurate and my stay stitching level so that I could match up and snip the corners of my bodice stripes correctly so that they were all even and lay flat. It may seem like a small thing but I’m really pleased with how neat I got it all!

I had two colour threads for sewing this one light blue for the main fabric and one dark navy for the contrast because you top stitch over your contrasting stripe. After I had done the navy top stitching I just felt like it looked uneven without any on the other side, so I also topstitched the main fabric side of the stripe (see photo; it’s clearer to show than explain!)
I love that these trousers have pockets as always however, I know that on drapey fabric like viscose it’s not always a good idea because the bunching shows through so I did do a little test layering first to check. I thought it looks fine so I went ahead and added them. So glad I did because I don’t think you can see any creasing at all - I think that’s helped by the fact the top of the pocket is stitching into the waist band so they really stay very flat.

More details in my next post!
