When I ordered this pale pink Minerva Core Range Klona 100% Cotton Fabric
I had a couple of ideas of what I might make but after receiving the fabric, I went a totally different way. Instagram inspiration hit and I decided I wanted a matching set, one with shorts and a long sleeve button up. I did only order 2.5 meters of the cotton so, I went with Grainline Studio’s Archer Shirt instead of my oversized Fibre Mood Carry Shirt. This fabric is 100% cotton and 53 inches wide, so that helped with the pattern layout. I did just squeeze it out but with a bit of piecing . Which was my pockets and in the close up picture of my shorts with the elastic waist you can see this. I don’t mind it at all, in fact, it does look like a design feature. I made sure to make both pockets look the same!
The pink is such a great shade and this fabric presses beautifully and I loved sewing it. I went with Georgia Portfolio’s Don Shorts in View B and as I mentioned the Grainline Studio’s Archer Shirt. When, the Archer first came out, it was oversized and I was not use to that style, so I went down a couple of sizes. Now we are in the oversized fashion era, and I wanted the Archer to look a bit oversized. With fabric tight, I cut the side seams straight instead of the bit of taper the pattern has.
I did sew the shorts first; they are just so quick. The pattern has lots of length, I shorted them by a couple of inches before hemming. This was a good thing, I used it for the self-fabric faux drawstring. That bit of fabric was just enough to make the bow! Next up the Archer, which if you look at constructing the entire garment, you think it should take some time. To me, it always seems any button up goes quickly, in part I think I section it off in my mind. Front, back and yoke, then collar, next sleeves and cuffs, followed by hem, buttonholes and buttons. Speaking of buttons, I had some great ones in my stash, just a bit darker pink which adds some interest to my shirt.
I love my set with my white tank and the Archer left open. I did try it with the Archer buttoned up and tucked in but I am so straight up and down with little waist definition this just didn’t look good. My favorite way to wear it is as a set but I did take some pictures with the shorts and another top and the Archer with jeans. These are good looks too, making these pieces so versatile.
Take a look at this fabric it comes in 45 colors, yes 45!
