Another fantastic Minerva Kit and I am here for it. I am loving the pleated pants right now and Closet Core’s Mitchell pants are so good. One thing I really like about Minerva Kits is the convenience of having everything you need come in one package right to your mailbox. This pattern needs several notions, including zippers, button, hook & bar fasteners and the slide buckles, to name a few. At the end of my review, I will link all the notions, fabrics and various sewing items needed to make the Mitchells. You can click on these items and add them to your cart. Some of the items you might have in your sewing stash, so those items don’t need to added. I sew in the evenings most of the time and I it is sure nice to have everything right there so you don’t have to stop and get something later.
The Mitchell Trousers are high-waisted with a fly front zipper and a comfy hidden waistband facing for a sleek continuous silhouette through the rise–choose between a hidden pants hook and bar or classic button closure. Deep pleats in the front enclose a unique angled pocket. Darts shape the back, with optional back welt pockets. View A features a tapered leg ending at the ankle. View B features a full-length wide leg and adjustable waist straps secured with D-rings or sliders.
The fabric from Minerva is perfect for this pattern with a beautiful hand and drape. The fabric is Meet MILK Smooth Drape Tencel Lyocell Twill Fabric in dark navy. This Tencel Lyocell comes in an abundance of colors. With the drape in mind, I did not do the back welt pockets. I struggle with welt pockets on a more sturdy fabric, I didn’t want to chance it on these pants. These pants do not take long to make but I did struggle with the sliders, I kept putting them on wrong! Silly mistake and I kept making them harder than it was. The adjustable straps are a great feature but when I make this pattern again, I will probably will not add them to my garment. One other change, I did not add the button and buttonhole, I just used the hook and bar fastener for a sleeker look.
For the photos, I tucked my top in so you can see the features of the garment. Since I am pretty straight in my waist, I would do a partial tuck to add some dimension to my waist.
I am so thrilled with these pants, they were fun to make and the fabric makes them an excellent finished garment. The drape of the fabric really works perfectly with the wide legs of the Mitchell Trousers. I do appreciate the pattern has two views with the wide leg and the tapered option. I am really enjoying the wide leg trend so this will be the one I make for future pants. Go grab this fabric, you will love any garment you make but I suggest these trousers for a fun new look.
