Hello sewing friends, this month I have finally got around to making a knit project just in time for the holidays.
This is Pearl, a wrap cardigan from Tilly and the Buttons.
I chose to use this adorable Sparkle Sweater Knit Stretch Fabric in navy (other colours are available at the time of writing this post). When my fabric arrived I was blown away by the quality of it. It has a medium to heavy weight and is a really stable knit fabric to sew with, and doesn't curl at the edges when cut. It has the perfect stretch for this project and excellent recovery so keeps its shape very well. There is a very subtle shimmer thread running through it which I hope you can pick up on in these pictures, but as we know dark colours like this are very difficult to photograph to show detail. It is extremely cosy too, and is remarkably warm and soft to wear against your skin.
The Pearl wrap cardigan is fairly easy to sew and comes with the choice of 3 sleeve options - short, long straight and long balloon. I absolutely knew I wanted to make the balloon sleeve as I love the shape and that dramatic gather into that statement long cuff.
The instructions, along with the step by step photographs were as usual very good ( TATB have some of the best pattern instructions in my opinion), but I must admit I did get a little confused when I got to the part where you reinforce the opening in the hem band where you feed your tie through. This truly is a classic addition to any wardrobe and can be worn dressed up with a party skirt, dressed down with your jeans or simply popped on over an existing dress that you already have.
