Hi Fellow Makers,

So once bonefire night on the 5th November is all over, it’s time to roll out the Christmas outfit plans! Then I have most of November to create, so it takes the pressure off in December.

This year I wanted to make a stylish and practical dress that would have a quick wash care turnaround and would be the dress I could juggle all the Christmas hosting in. If you know, then you need this dress.

I chose the beautiful read and white strip Minerva core poplin for this project as it has a candy cane feel with the stripe but being cotton is breathable, soft on the skin but can within stand a high wash.

I needed a dress for a Mummy at Christmas and this is it!
I love how well the fabric was to make. I prewashed the fabric and then I used a new size 70 needle to stitch. Definitely recommend a new needle so you don’t pull the fabric with that stripe.

I found the fabric weave didn’t fray which was one of my concerns, particularly with the collar details. No huge fraying and the collar was put on in one take! Win!

I loved sewing with this fabric, it has a soft sheen to it and a low brush on the fabric surface. It didn’t slip under the feed dogs and I would recommend it for your Christmas makes.

I could see Christmas PJ’s in this fabric and men’s Christmas shirts. If you are looking to move away from the Christmas sweatshirts and go a little more vintage in your look. Simplicity 8014 view B in this class cotton poplin is a great look to see you to New Year.

My next post is how I made the dress…

Have a great Tuesday!
