Hello Minerva community💖

Hope you are having a lovely week and I’m really happy to share my recent creation for the Minerva Ambassador Program. Hope you like my dress and reading about the process.

I wanted to make a dress for autumn that is also comfortable to wear. I get inspiration from fabric or patterns depending on what I find. This time I was very lucky to find such lovely fabric and it gave me a lot of ideas about what I could make.

I love floral design fabric and I was so excited when I found this fabric. It has beautiful rose patterns with romantic feelings. I really liked the dark teal color that is rich and perfect for my dress idea. I didn't realise at first but the floral design flows in only one direction. This meant I had to make sure I cut them right so all the design follows together when I attach the different parts. I’ve used a different Minerva range viscose before and this fabric didn’t disappoint me either! It's very soft and on the skin and comfortable to wear. It’s a light fabric but the thickness is just right and very easy to sew. The fabric was gifted for this project so thank you very much for your support Minerva.

I decided to use my favorite Gertie's Night and Day dresses from the Charm Pattern series. I used the pattern before (https://www.minerva.com/posts/1168798) and I loved it. The patterns are not only beautiful but very practical as you can mix and match to create 72 different dresses! I have made a dress with the round neckline and the trumpet skirt before so this time I chose the york skirt and a squire neckline pattern. The york skirt seemed difficult at first but I found it easy to follow the instructions. I found that the corners of the squire neckline were a little bit tricky to sew as they needed to be nice and clean. The gather part of the skirt starts lower than the waist line and sits on a widest part of the hip. So it gives more volume on hips which makes the waist look thinner. I’m UK size 8 and I used a size 4 in the pattern and it fits great. When I use Gertie’s pattern, I always take about one inch at the back when I’m attaching a zipper to fit me perfectly. The bodice was a little too long and it was showing my underwear from the neckline. I’m short so I sometimes have this problem when I’m sewing. I took about one inch from the shoulder and adjusted the arm holes to fit my body.

I enjoyed making this dress and I’m really happy how the dress turned out. It’s a romantic dress that I can wear casually or more formally with some vintage accessories.

Thank you for reading this, I hope it helps with whatever you are making. Big thank you to everyone who posts on this community, it has been a great help and such an inspiration💕
