A Minerva Kit is such a fun and convenient way to make a new garment. For this kit, Simplicity 8875 a dress with four views is the pattern. Using this dress and a Minerva Core Range Urban Cheetah Viscose Challis Fabric. I am not a huge fan of animal prints but this colorway spoke to me. The pink in the cheetah print just added a pop of color. This viscose is such a soft and drapey fabric and works perfectly for Simplicity 8875.
How does this kit work? Well, at the end of this post, I will link all the items you need to make this dress. From those links, you add to your cart what you need. If you have the pattern, do not add it. It works the same way with the zipper, thread, interfacing, if you have those items, do not add them to your cart.
I was sent this kit by Minerva as part of their ambassador program. In my kit, I received the pattern, fabric, needles, interfacing, invisible zipper, thread, buttons, elastic. Everything I needed to make this beautiful dress. I went with view D, so I only used two of the buttons and I did not need the elastic. So, if possible, plan the view you want to make and that will help you order the notions needed for the view you are sewing.
My pattern was the 14-22, I needed the 6-14 range, no problem, just a bit of alteration. Now with the sizing correct, it was time to cut out. View D only has 7 pattern pieces, so the cutting was quick.
I love sewing the Minerva Core Range Viscose and find it a dream to sew. I do add a few more pins to keep it from shifting. The pattern calls for a 22” zipper and I did use a strip of interfacing on each side of the center back seam, this helps with the stretching and keeps the zipper area a bit more stable.
I do not wear or sew dresses very often but enjoy a good go-to dress for weddings and other events. Simplicity 8875 is the perfect style for a go-to dress and this cheetah viscose makes it so fun. I can say this Simplicity 8875 was fun to sew and more fun to wear. The style works well with my more “H” body type and the viscose drapes beautifully for the lines of this dress.
I did add two buttons to the front of the dress, I had them in the kit and I just thought they looked good on the bodice. From a distance, the black buttons do blend in with the fabric.
