After all these years of sewing, I can't believe I found a new substrate to try! I've sewed with single gauze and double gauze, but never triple gauze. And surprise, surprise, of course I used it to make a skirt!

This is the Mave Skirt patterns by True Bias. One of my favorite skirt patterns ever! I made this maxi version by cutting at the midi line and adding Tier 2 at the bottom.

So how does triple gauze compare to single and double gauze? First let me tell you what I've made from single and double gauze.

Single gauze was the perfect fabric for making summer baby blankets. I love to swaddle my newborn babies for all the great long-lasting benefits it provides, but in the heat of summer, you have to be careful what kind of fabric you use to make the blanket. Single gauze is very lightweight and airy. A garment made from single gauze would need a lining underneath to prevent it from being see-through.

Double gauze, how I love thee! I've sewn skirts (duh!) and tops and dresses from double gauze. It is also a wonderful fabric for summer, being lightweight and airy. It's not as translucent as single gauze, as you might expect being that there are 2 layers of gauze. My top made from double gauze did not require a lining. As a precaution, I do wear a slip under my double gauze skirt.

Triple gauze is quite a bit more structured than single and double gauze. It is still lightweight and airy. As you can see from the pictures, this skirt has more substance or structure than other Mave Skirts I've sewn. (For instance, it does not have the drape or flowyness as the one you can see in my feed made from Minerva Exclusive rayon fabric.) There is no need to wear a slip or lining under a garment made from triple gauze.

Triple gauze would work wonderfully for a button up shirt, pants, a shacket or even lightweight jacket. A suit jacket made from triple gauze would add just the right amount of professionalism to a summer work outfit.

What would you make from triple gauze? Give me some ideas, this is my new obsession!
