Pattern Description: The Lander pattern is a pant and short with a high waist and button fly. The design includes front and back patch pockets, belt loops, and a straight fit through the legs. View A is a short with a 4” inseam, View B is an ankle length pant, and View C is a boot length pant that can be worn with a heel.
Pattern Sizing: 0-18. I made a size 2.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, very much so.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Excellent instructions and a very quick sew.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Likes: I love how easy it is to make. I really like the button fly closure and the slightly wide leg style. I love that it comes with three views.
Dislikes: I really dislike the square back pockets the pattern comes with. I substituted the pockets from the Riley Overalls instead. I also changed the belt loops slightly just based on personal preference.
Fabric Used: I used a light-medium cotton canvas. It's not too heavy to wear in the summer but has great structure that holds its shape in this style really well. It was also easy to sew and press. It's always nice to work with a fabric that behaves itself.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I made the shorts first and carried over a lot of the same fit changes. I increased the front rise .75" to make them sit on my natural waist. I cut the pants at the ankle length and then shortened them 3" to make them ankle length on me (i'm 4'9"). I added to both the front and back crotch points and inner thighs to add more space there. I took 1 inch out of the waist at the back darts to eliminate gaping.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I have already sewn it twice and I can see myself sewing both the pants and shorts again. This will definitely be a new TNT for me, and I can't believe it took me so long to try out the pattern.
Conclusion: A fabulous easy pair of pants. Make one!
