Jumpsuits are everywhere at the moment, I think that we are all ready to put the nasty cold Winter weather behind us and dig out our fun clothes again for the Spring.
This is the Zadie Jumpsuit which I know will need no introduction for many. It's probably one of the most popular jumpsuit patterns and as I have only made one version before, back in 2019, another version of this lovely pattern was long overdue.
The Zadie is a wrap jumpsuit with no buttons or zips and is fastened using two long ties that wrap around your waist. I have made the dropped shoulders sleeveless version, but there is a sleeve if you prefer this option.
It's a fairly straightforward pattern for those with some sewing experience, as challenges include cutting and attaching bias binding, creating and attaching slant pockets, and most importantly getting the fitting right in the first place.
Making a toile of this pattern is very wise before you cut into any precious fabric. Personally I needed to size down a little as the ease in this pattern was too much for me. I also shortened the rise by 1" as the crotch was too low for me. As always the legs needed a fair bit of shortening - especially as I wanted them to be cropped. But everybody is different, so test out this pattern for yourself first - it may fit perfectly straight out of the packet for you without any adjustments! Lucky you if it does!
I have linked this pattern below this post.
Also linked below is the beautiful viscose linen fabric that I chose to make my Zadie with. Out of the 19 colours stocked by Minerva, I chose the 'Lime Green'. Whilst the name description isn't that appealing, it is in fact a very neutral and wearable colour and exactly the shade that I wanted. I love the soft feel of viscose linen against my skin and think that this fabric is a stunning pairing with this pattern.
The only problem that I came across when making this pattern is the part where you join the bottom of the bound edges to the rise. This intersection doesn't seem to sit very well and despite giving it a good press with the fabric laying in the correct directions it still looks a bit odd. Let me know if you struggle with this part of the pattern too ..or is it just me! 😂
It's a very comfortable garment to wear, I love how one of the ties threads through a small opening at the side and they cinch you in at the waist when you cross them and tie them. The pockets are nice and deep. However remember that at the end of the day it is a jumpsuit, so trips to the bathroom are not quick or straightforward! But the look makes it so worth it!
Are jumpsuits part of your Spring wardrobe too? Have you made the Zadie? I'd love to hear. What other fabrics would you pair with a Zadie jumpsuit?
Take care, and happy sewing,
see you soon,
