Pattern Description: Sewaholic Pendrell Blouse-The Pendrell blouse is a feminine semi-fitted top. Versions include uniquely sewn cap sleeves, flirty double ruffles or classic sleeveless shell.
Pattern Sizing: 0-16. I made a size 2, grading to a size 0 at the hip. Sewaholic patterns are meant for pear shapes which I am not, so the hip is still very roomy even at the smaller size.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes. I made the version with the ruffle cap sleeves.
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions are simple and easy to follow. However, at least on my paper pattern there is an error on the neckline binding pattern piece. It says to cut 2 when you only need 1. I don't know if this has been corrected in newer versions of the pattern.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Likes: I like that the pattern comes with different sleeve options and has princess seams.
Dislikes: the pattern as drafted is extremely long. I shortened mine 3 inches and it's still plenty long enough to tuck in. I think it's actually more of a tunic as designed.
I also do not like that you are instructed to sew 5/8" seams on the neck/sleeve bindings. I think that is too thick of a seam allowance which makes it hard to be accurate.
Fabric Used: I used a Minerva exclusive rayon challis. I tried to be careful about pattern placement because there are parts of the very colorful print that I am not crazy about. However, I still managed to get a pool of the neon yellow patch on the front of my top which I do not care for. totally my fault though. and it's a really nitpicky thing that probably no one besides me would notice.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: As mentioned, I shortened the top. I believe that was the only alteration I made.
If I made another version I would probably try to bring in the hips more as it does wing out a bit on me. But I would always wear the blouse tucked in so it doesn't bother me too much as is.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I'm unsure if I would make it again. Maybe the sleeveless shell version. I like the idea of the ruffle cap sleeve in theory but I don't know if it really suits me.
Conclusion: It's a very quick and easy sew and I do like the princess seams and the high neckline. I just don't know if those statement sleeves are right for me.
