For my February brand ambassador project, I chose to make a nightwear set. The patterns I used are New Look 6233 View D (the robe) and Papercut Patterns Maya dress in the knee length view.
New Look 6233 used a Minerva-exclusive printed french terry. This fabric has a nice weighty feel to it, making it a very cosy robe to snuggle up in. I made a size XS and shortened the sleeves 3 inches but did not make any other alterations to the pattern. The design was very easy and quick to sew and was finished in one afternoon. I used my serger for most of the construction but you will need a regular sewing machine for the bands, tie, and hems. I absolutely love the jungle print with tigers. It will make me smile whenever I wear it.
For the Papercut Patterns Maya, I used a solid viscose poplin fabric. I starched the fabric while ironing and the added stability made it very easy to cut and sew. This fabric held its shape really well, which can be tricky with a bias-cut garment. I made a straight size 3 and shortened the knee length dress by 3 inches, and I also shortened the straps 3 inches. I added foam cups from Amazon for modesty--great for posting makes on the internet but I would likely skip this step for future nightgowns. If I were making it again I would do a small-bust adjustment to the cups and possibly shorten them as well. I let the dress hang for about 48 hours before hemming—the instructions do not tell you to do this but I find it a necessary step with any bias-cut item. I purchased the adjustable strap findings from Amazon. I like the dress as a nightgown and possibly even as a functional slip but I don’t think I feel comfortable enough to wear it as an actual dress. It is a very pretty design though and relatively easy to sew.
I absolutely love my new set and although it’s not matchy-matchy I think it coordinates quite well. Thanks to Minerva for sponsoring the fabric. It was a really fun make.
