I’m excited to show you this project I’ve been working on! Sometimes having a particular fabric to sew can be a little stifling; but sometimes I find it very freeing and I try something I usually wouldn’t do. Take this set for example!

This is McCall’s 7789, otherwise known as #lottiemccalls and it’s designed as a jumpsuit. However, I wanted separates because I know the pants will get worn much more that way!

This fabric is another Minerva Exclusive design on Viscose Challis. I played a bit with the properties of the fabric, and by underlining the top pieces and the waistband in calico I could get a more structured version of the fabric which contrasted nicely with the drapey pants.

Measurements wise, I’m currently about 35” / 29” / 38” which puts me at a size 12 on top and 14 on bottom. That is what I cut and then ended up taking a massive 2” out of the centre back of both the top and bottoms at the centre back, but actually everything else fit pretty well. The loose fit is super forgiving fit wise! Next time, I think I could make this as a jumpsuit and really love it. The only change I would do is possibly adding boning to the side seams.

Sometimes going outside of your comfort zone can really create some exciting results. Don’t be afraid to try something that you think might not suit you!
