Hello Minerva community💖

Hope everyone's having a great day and ready for the busy Christmas season ahead! I’d like to share my recent Minerva ambassador project and I hope you like it.

I was looking for fabric for the autumn and winter season. I found this Woven Crepe fabric that has a really lovely design and I loved it as soon as I saw it! Thank you very much Minerva for this fabric and your support.

The fabric has a nice thickness and it stretches a bit so it is very comfortable to wear. It's also very smooth on the skin which is very important for me. I'm a self-taught sewer and just recently I found out that I should use a ball point needle for stretch fabrics! With that in mind, I found the fabric very easy to sew. I especially love the design of the fabric which has a very autumn feeling color palette.

The challenging part was pattern matching. This was my first pattern matching dress and I really wanted to do it as I love the floral design. However, I didn’t realise how hard and time-consuming it would be to do! It took me a good few hours to figure out how to actually cut it right. I needed to think about where there was a seamline for when I would overlay the fabric to make sure the patterns matched when the dress came together. This also meant I needed more fabric than the actual dress size as I had to find the matching design to cut. I had to think carefully about where the flowers began and ended and, as it is quite a dramatic fabric design, how to balance it out. The fabric has two sizes for flowers and as I'm short, I thought the big flower in front of the dress wouldn't suit me. So I made sure all the big flowers ended up on the side or the back of my dress. I put a lot of thought into the dress but I’m really happy with the result!

I used Gertie's Night and Day dresses from the Charm Pattern series. I love the idea that you can mix and match the patterns to have more options. They all had a really elegant design and this time I chose a round neck bodice, three quarter sleeve with shaped hem and trumpet skirt. I love how the skirt shapes and flows. I’m UK size 8 and I used a size 4 in the pattern. The top part fits me great and it was only the bottom part I needed to take in to fit my waist and hip line. During the sleeve process, I didn’t realise that the sleeve facing would end up in front and I actually attached it inside instead. I made a mistake but I guess it gives an extra nice finish to it. I love this pattern and I can’t wait to try different beautiful designs!

Thank you for reading this, I hope it helps with whatever you are making. Big thank you to everyone who posts on this community, it has been a great help and such an inspiration😍
