LET ME TELL YOU THE INSIDE STORY

Ohhhh where do I even begin???
Maybe I’ll start from me promising myself that this would be my year of pants (trousers), now that in of itself is worthy of its blog post, alternatively, I have the whole struggle documented on Instagram, as you would LOL.
Anyway, after the struggle to draft my trouser pattern and what seemed like 20 muslins later, I reached something I thought was decent, and was ready to spread my wings and fly.
Along came the email from Minerva and as soon as I saw this fabric I knew I had to have it.
I mean, look at it, the pictures on the sight do it no justice whatsoever.
I loved everything about it, the colour, the texture, the feel, the pattern on it, etc.
But what made me go for it was the fact that it had a bit of stretch to it. Which I absolutely need for fitted pants. I decided to keep my first foray with trousers simple and straight forward, but the insides………. ladies and gents, I had a bit of fun.
So the fabric in question is stretch jacquard with some check or square pattern on it. I would say it’s of medium weight or at least bottom-weight fabric. It has more stretch on one side than the other, that was the side I cut on. I've been on a high waist kick recently so I drafted the pattern for this trouser accordingly.
I wanted something fun on the insides to make up for the plain jane outsides. So I Hong Kong finished all the seams on the insides with a pink check fabric, talk about standing out.
At first, I was worried that I would be adding so much bulk to what was a fitted trouser, and I also thought that the Hong Kong finish would imprint on the right side of the trouser when I was wearing it.
Luckily no such thing happened and my trousers fit me great if I do say so myself.
I choose to go with a facing instead of a waistband and made them almost ankle length.

The fabric was nice and easy to sew up, I used a size 12 needle but I sewed with a very narrow zig-zag stitch to accommodate the stretch. I put my zipper on the side, I wasn’t quite ready to tackle a fly front zipper and I have nightmares from back zippers on fitted trousers (a story for another day, LOL).
The hardest and most time-consuming thing about the whole project was making the double fold bias tape, even with a bias tape maker tool, IT IS HARD WORK.
But I realized that this is why we sew, to make such things for ourselves. Could you imagine the cost of such a pair of trousers in the store?
Now for patterns, you can sew up the “Sew Over It Ultimate trousers”, it’s not high waisted but not everyone will be into those I imagine.
There's also the Tynni cigarette trousers from Named Clothing, this has pockets, a high waist, facings, and a zipper in the front.
I also found this pattern called “I am Panoramix” by Tissu & Co. It's high-waisted, tapered, facings, and some other interesting variation.

That is all for now about these trousers, but the star of the show IMHO is the Hong Kong finishings on the inside. Of course, the fabric is also amazing, they had it in a green colourway if I’m not mistaken. I do see myself in pants that colour, LOL.
HAPPY SEWING EVERYONE.
