When 1 project becomes 2! (Minerva Brand Ambassador project) Quite determined to use up all the fabric of this Liberty cotton-linen blend. Posting a pic of my dress which is underway, and the leftovers I made into a project bag as a gift for my friend.

The bag - I did a little free motion quilting on it if you peer a bit at the close-up - this also helps to stabilise the body of the bag in the same way as interfacing (though I interfaced it as well to be doubly sure that it would stand up). However, I kept the thread colour neutral as I wanted the print to stand out (I think it's called Strawberry Thief) and I love the little birds on it. The base and the drawstring channels are made in corduroy that I cut up from another project that didn't work out. 

The dress - I've used pink piping on it to break up the print. It's probably my favourite way to do that! Especially since the dress has a tiered gathered skirt, it looks quite effective. The eagle-eyed amongst you may notice that the piping has been cut on grain. This is because the tiers are rectangles cut on the grain. If there were curves I would have cut it on the bias. I've made my piping from scraps of quilting cotton but I've also tagged one that would be useful if you wanted a ready-made one.

Of course, I'll show you the whole dress when it's all done and dusted! Nearly there!
