Back to the gym ! Well, back to the mat in my bedroom for now. I decided to train more and to start working on my cardio that was non-existent+some yoga for the core.
That meant I needed some new workout gear since my workout leggings dated from my university years…
I had this funny coral-with- butterfly scuba that begged to be used to cheer me up during harsh cardio sessions.
It’s thick and I love to feel compression while working out.
Workout gear comes with an unexpected bonus: it’s not a fabric hog. I sewed 3 pieces in 2 meters (and I still have some left, but for a smaller size, a teenager’s size for instance).
The top piece is the Little Black Bra by George+Ginger (or LBB in short). That free pattern is a staple in my wardrobe. Since the scuba is rather thick, I chose a D cup (instead of a B cup). I did the narrow band and no need to add elastic, it has the right kind of support for my bust since I lined it with some
#airtex.
It’s comfy and cute.
I can pair the LBB with either Moxi shorts or MyFit shorts.
The Myfit shorts are made using the awesome MyFit pattern by Apostrophe. You input your measurements, the stretch of the fabric, the options, etc and you get the pattern pieces that match all of these. It’s great not to wonder if this particular fabric has the right amount of stretch. There are numerous options such as yoga, contoured, or maternity waistband. You can adjust the length of the inseam, you can add a contrast insert at the side. You can add pocket(s) on the side too or a zipper pocket on the back waistband. And the bonus is that you can sew MyFit leggings for the whole family and neighborhood.
My favorite waistband being the contoured one, I did a cyclist length with contoured waistband and a simple hem. These shorts are just tight as I like and do not move when working out. No slipping back waistband and no need to re-adjust them as I go.
I used woolly nylon in the looper of my coverstitch for extra flexibility of the hem. I fiddled a bit with the settings to get the right amount of stretch and no tunnelling. The scuba being rather thick makes for good compression shorts.
The second pair of shorts is very different. I bought the Moxi pattern by Greeenstyle Creations because I liked the look of it! I had some satin bias in my stash and used it for binding. Not the best idea because it’s a bit stiff.
The way they’re designed allows for a wide range of motion. The contoured waistband hits just below the navel. I may have overestimated my size and done one size too large, but the waistband stays in place so it’s not a big deal. This pattern calls for stretch wovens, but that scuba being a 2-way stretch worked well too.
I enjoyed sewing that scuba fabric a lot. It made for perfect workout gears.
