Hiya! For the first time in ages, I struggled with a fabric – I know right?! I’m going on the fact that my skills were not up to scratch rather than it being a fabric problem. I remember growing up with my Gramp always saying the saying ‘A bad workman blames his tools’ and that’s stuck with me! Let’s talk about the fabric… it’s gorgeous – it’s got a lush feminine feel to it and drapes really well. It also has a crepe texture to it making it a fabric that would require hardly any ironing, which is always a bonus in my eyes! I really wanted to make this fabric into a lovely wrap dress – so I went with the Sew Over It Eve. I’ll be honest, It didn’t turn out how I would have expected, I found the fabric really hard to work with – it’s quite bouncy and it was hard to keep it in place – no matter how many pins and clips I used. I actually cried real tears and stressed over this one so much because I really wanted it to go perfectly well and me end up with a lovely feminine dress. So the dress was out of the question and I put the project down for a few days – which is definitely something I would advise if you are struggling, a break is always better than totally giving up! So I took some time out and went back to it with a different idea. I went for a bit more of an easier pattern – the Ogden Cami. I’m so glad I didn’t give up on it and took the break – my top is absolutely gorgeous and I love wearing it. I made the length a little longer and the inside lining longer too to enable me to tuck it in to give that casual look with jeans. I’ve had so many compliments whilst wearing it which is lovely because I think inside ‘you don’t know the half of it’, and tell them that it started off as a dress haha! A word of advice – never give up…. Take the break and reassess. Until next time… Tee x
