Hi everyone! Alexis from @myysweetsunshine back on Minerva today and excited to share a new project with you all.

I will forever love eyelet. To me it’s timeless, classic and beautiful! It is however only good for warmer months of the year. It provides zero warmth and you will need to layer underneath. I went back and forth on what to make with this eyelet. I originally planned to make a dress but after making months and months of dresses, I felt it was time to switch it up and sew a blouse. I found what I think was the perfect match for this beautiful fabric. Gotta love the combo of big sleeves, yummy color and delicate eyelet.

Details about the Fabric:
1. The fabric is a light to medium weight fabric. The eyelet construction gives the fabric more structure and also leaning towards medium weight.
2. Comes in 10 colors!!! I’m already planning on buying a few more colors. I think black will be really cool!
3. 57” width
4. 55% cotton, 45% polyester
5. Textured fabric- due to the construction of the eyelet fabric.
6. One side is a flat matte and the other side is textured and has slightly more sheen.
7. No serger needed if you don’t want to as this fabric does not fray.
8. Pair with a pattern that can be lined or can be worn with layers underneath, I.E…slip.
9. Best to use a French seam technique to hide and enclose the seams.

I paired the Cotton Lace Fabric with the Puff Sleeve Crop by Caitlin Crisp.

Details about the Pattern:
Ok, so let’s chat about this pattern. It’s not an easy to find pattern. It came from a clothing designer that sold a limited amount of paper patterns. From what it looks like she no longer has this pattern in stock. However, I always suggest reaching out and asking as I did. She did not have my size but had the size larger. It’s an easy top to modify and I can’t wait to play with it more and make a dress. I also want to mention it is on the pricey side for a pattern… $45. Eeek! I am so in love with the fit and final look that I was ok with spending that kind of money AND perhaps a little crazy!!!! My sweet husband even commented that he loved the top!

Final Thoughts:
So, my thoughts on the fit of the puff blouse…
The top is too short for me so instead of folding the bottom band in half, I cut a second band and sewed them together to keep the width. Next time I will be lengthening the top by 1”-2”.

As mentioned above I received the size up and as you can see the shoulder seam falls outside the shoulder edge. Normally that would bother me, however, I like that I don’t have the voluminous sleeve cap sitting up high. As much as I love a puffy sleeve, one sitting that high can be too much (for me) for an everyday look. Speaking of the sleeve, I decreased the volume by 3.5”. Yep,3.5”!!!! There’s a lot of volume in those sleeves!

Few notes for the next time I make this top…
Longer length
Keep the oversized shoulder seam
Doing a full waistband
Solid back bodice
Maybe a full dress… To be continued

Thank you for taking the time for reading my post!

Till next time,
-Alexis
