Hello again! I’m sharing today about the final Cinema dress by Liesl and Co with a very lovely, medium weight linen from Minerva.
I LOVE the finished dress! The knee length was a fun mod. I love the body and crisp, A-line shape this fabric brings to the pattern.
For reference, I shortened the sleeves by 3 11/16”. I then turned up the hem 3 ⅜”. I could have cut off more fabric from the sleeve for a smaller hem but I just left the edge seamed and turned up the hem to a longer length.
For the bottom hem, I cut the pattern at the shorter length, version A. To achieve a knee length on me (I’m 5’5”) I turned up the hem by 4.25”. I also could have cut off fabric for a smaller hem but I decided again to stick with a longer hem.
I love that the front and back yokes in this dress offer so many options to customize! If you also enjoy making multiple versions of the same pattern, I wanted to share some information provided by the designer. She offers multiple variations of the pattern with lots of variations to consider.

https://www.stylearc.com/shop/sewing-patterns/libby-dress/ The link above is technically a different pattern but the construction has a similar inspiration. I love the look of a drapey black fabric for the skirt, side panels, and sleeves with a contrasting yoke for the front and back. I would love to make a version of this dress with a black crêpe and a contrasting neutral yoke for the front and back.
Have you made the Cinema dress yet? Thank you so much for reading about my project.
