I am so excited that this striped cotton jersey stretch knit has been added to Minerva’s core range. It is such a great stable knit and one I will be reaching for time and again!

I first made a t-shirt version of M6886 with this fabric. I love navy and white stripes in the summer for a nautical vibe and have been wanting to try this pattern for a while because I like the fitted style of the line art. I turned the dress pattern into a t-shirt but cutting my fabric at the lengthen and shorten line on the pattern pieces, but would lengthen future t-shirts by at least an inch. I (mostly) followed the pattern instructions since this was the first time I made this pattern and while I love the shape of the pattern pieces I did not care for many of the construction techniques, such as set in sleeves, double folded arm and body hem, and fold under and top-stitch neckline. I decided to create a neckband instead of following the pattern instructions, so I cut down ⅝” off the neckline and inserted a rectangular neckband, 2” x (85% of neck measurement)”. With the insertion of the neckband on the lowered neckline the t-shirt finished at the same height as initially drafted, but I find it a bit tall and will use the lower neckline pattern piece in the future. I will also insert the sleeves flat and hem as usual when I make this pattern again. The size chart put me in a size 14, but made a size 12 and am glad I did.

I loved the fabric so much I wanted to use every last piece, so I decided to make the free Itch to Stitch Lago Tank. I shortened the pattern by an inch, but still didn’t have enough fabric for the arm bands, so I pieced some fabric together, careful to match stripes, and had a make-it-work moment! However, the sizing on the Lago Tank was dramatically different from my true sizing and I ended up pinning out much of the excess fabric (as much as 10” at the waist, although in the end I over fit it a bit!) I initially made size 2 and, even with the fit issues I had, would try this pattern again in the 00 and remove an additional inch from the length.

The Megan Nielsen Acacia Underwear was another pattern I wanted desperately to try but I was running low on fabric and needed to create a “design feature” of additional fabric at the side hip to make it work. I like the fit of these underwear, although there is a bit of excess fabric near the bottom of my cheek that I may try to remove in future versions (or tighten up the elastic at that point). In this version I used lingerie elastic and love the look. They are very comfortable and a great fabric/pattern pairing. I see many more Acacia Underwear in my future! I made a size small.

Patterns: McCalls 6886, Itch to Stitch Lago Tank, Megan Nielsen Acacia Underwear
Size: 12 (M6886); 2 but reduced to 00 (Lago Tank); small (Acacia Underwear)
Fabric: 1 ½ meters of Minerva Core Range Cotton Jersey Stretch Knit Fabric, but I should have ordered at least 2 meters
Time: 2 hours (M6886), 2 hours (Lago Tank), 1 hour (Acacia Underwear) due to this being the first time I made each pattern and the care I took with stripe matching

Cost to Make:
pattern - initially $19.95, but I likely purchased on a $1.99 sale
fabric - approximately $30, plus $6 in shipping for total order (converted to USD)
elastic - $1 for 1 yard, purchased from Fancy Tiger Crafts in 2019
thread from my stash
TOTAL VALUE: $57
