Could he be any cuter?! I don’t make garments for my husband often, but it's so rewarding each time I do that I always swear I’ll make more items for him. And the Toby K Patterns Yorkshire Pullover I recently made for him was no different.

My preference for getting the best fitting garment is to tissue fit the pattern before cutting into the fashion fabric. I had the Yorkshire pattern professionally printed at PDFPlotting.com, cut out a size 38 based on Paul’s measurements, marked the seamlines, and pinned the paper pieces together. Fitting a paper pattern to Paul’s body was a bit more difficult than fitting a tissue pattern but we were ultimately happy with the fit and moved forward making a straight size 38. It is so much easier to fit a pattern to someone else’s body and not your own!

The Yorkshire pattern offers a ton of variations. This time I decided to make the pullover for Paul to wear while working since he always seems to be cold at the office. I love the high style look of the Yorkshire, and it was so easy to achieve with only five pattern pieces - a front, back, two sleeves, four shawl collars, and two sleeve cuffs.

I found the construction of the pullover, especially the shawl collar installation, quite unique. I hadn’t ever made a collar like this before so I carefully followed the pattern instructions exactly and was surprised how quickly and easily the garment came together.

Again, I made a straight size 38 and it looks great on Paul. However, in the future, I could reduce the width at his center, lower back for a more fitted look which he prefers. I only deviated from the pattern by reducing the sleeve cuffs to half their original height, finishing at about 1 ½” each for his preferred finished sleeve length. I also hemmed the body of the pullover 2” total, turning under ½” and then folding up and hemming at 1 ½”.

I would definitely work with this fabric again too. It sewed up like a dream and has washed and dried well, allowing Paul to look effortlessly cute and casual while staying comfy and warm. And I love how high fashion the Yorkshire Pullover looks for being such a quick and easy make.

“I love how casual and stylish it is. I just appreciate my wife’s talent.” He’s a keeper, obviously.
