When I selected this Jacquard Jersey Knit fabric from Minerva to make a pajama set, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I didn’t even really know what a jacquard was. I still don’t completely understand how jacquard fabric is produced, but from the small amount of research I did, it sounds like it’s a special type of loom that weaves the fabric in a way that creates a raised texture in the fabric. What makes it different than any of the other printed knit fabrics I have sewn with is that the design is woven into the fabric itself, rather than printed on top of it.

The silver birds are woven in with a sparkly silver thread that shimmers when you look at it up close. Since it’s not printed on, I won’t have to worry about the silver flaking off or glitter getting everywhere! It looks cool on the inside too because you can see the silver thread.

Also surprising is the fact that even though this is a textured knit it doesn’t take away from the softness of the fabric at all. When sewing pajamas especially, you want the fabric to feel good against your skin and this fabric is incredibly soft on the inside. It was perfect for a pajama set like this. There were also no issues sewing it up; no fraying and minimal rolling up of the edges. I mostly used my serger for both the top and the bottom and only used my regular machine for topstitching. This fabric is on the thicker side, which is great for a nice cozy pair of pajamas and for the structure and stretch needed in the pants. It wasn’t anything my machines couldn’t handle!

The patterns I used were the Grainline Studio Linden Sweatshirt and True Bias Hudson Pant. I am late to the party on both of those patterns and wondering what took me so long to sew them. They are both fairly quick to sew, with the Linden Sweatshirt being the faster of the two. I sewed two more Linden Sweatshirts the weekend I sewed the top for this pajama set!

Truth be told, I have been wearing the top of this pajama set with jeans and it totally functions as casual day wear as well. I feel like it could be dressed up even more with a pair of black pants and boots or even with a skirt. I have gotten a lot of compliments on it and had several of my friends try it on so that I can make them a Linden Sweatshirt as well. Both of these patterns would make great gifts, since they are so easy to make and not fussy when it comes to fit.

The Hudson Pant pattern is available for women, men, and children, so you could make a pair of these up for anyone in your family!

Between this luxurious fabric and these comfy patterns, I never want to get out of these pajamas. I now know what I am going to be living in and making for family and friends this holiday season!
